Samira est la première partie du projet Emborders. Samira est un dyptique vidéo qui raconte l’histoire de Karim, un immigrant algérien vendant son corps en tant que Samira, la nuit à Marseille. Il a quitté l’Algérie adolescent et s’est enfuit en Italie quand ses seins commencèrent à se développer suite à la prise d’hormones. Dix ans plus tard Karim obtient l’asile politique en France grâce à ses seins qui lui permettent de défendre son cas comme celui d’une femme transgenre risquant le meurtre si on la rapatrie en Algérie.
Vingt ans plus tard, Karim se fait chirurgicalement enlever les seins pour recevoir de son père mourant le statut de chef de famille. Il se marie alors avec une femme pour avoir un nouveau passeport lui permettant de retourner en Algérie pour assumer son nouveau rôle.

The first part of the project Emborders is Samira, a 28 minutes art-science ethno-fictional movie or two-screen installation. Samira presents an ethnographic account of the life history of Karim, an Algerian migrant man selling sex as Samira at night in Marseille. Karim left Algeria as a young man as his breasts started developing as a result of taking hormones. He was granted asylum in France as a transgender woman, Samira.
Twenty years later, as his father is dying and he is about to become the head of the family Samira surgically removes her breasts and marries a woman in order to get a new passport allowing him to return to Algeria to assume his new role.
